WIN 2007 CAST Classic!!!
In one of the most emotionally exciting tournaments in CAST history, the local boy and girl live the fairy tale ending. Ronnie and Courtney Mundy from Broaddus, Texas took home the title of 2007 CAST Classic Champions! Not only did they win the tournament but they brought the largest bass of the event to the weigh-in at the last minute to claim the victory! Their total weight of 30.01 lbs. was anchored by a monsterous bass weighing 10.07 lbs.
On Saturday, day one of the Classic the Mundys had a weight of 12.18 lbs. leaving them in the seventh place position. Sleeping Saturday night was restless to say the least for all the couples in the top twenty positions. Everyone was just one good fish from taking home the largest cash prize ever offered at a CAST Classic event.
On Sunday Ronnie and Courtney ran over to the spot where they had caught three 9 plus pound bass on earlier trips to Sam Rayburn in 2007. The move and strategy paid off when 15 - 20 mph winds blew across their spot bringing the big fish up to feed. Ronnie had a bass comparable to the ten pounder blow up on a buzzbait early. Selecting a pink fluke to try and better see his bait in the white caps Ronnie hooked the huge fish that would win the 2007 CAST Classic!
Now the fun begins. Ronnie of course says, "GET THE NET!" Courtney of course says, "OH MY GOD!" The net they "just bought" is a collapsable type net. You guessed it; Courtney is asking, "How do you open this thing?" Ronnie is beside himself as he brings the fish to the boat for the THIRD time. He decides to attempt to lip this behemoth before it gets off the hook! God smiled on the Mundys this day and Ronnie was able to grab the fish in the wind, waves and excitement of the biggest moment in their CAST fishing history.
CAST could not have asked for a better or more deserving couple to win the biggest tournament in the organization.
Ronnie and Courtney have been fishing with CAST for the last three years in the Southeast Region. CAST has seen the Mundys grow as a couple, fishing competitors, and parents. Their son, Cody, will undoubtedly become the next competitive fisherman in the Mundy family.
We at CAST have been priviledged to have Ronnie, Courtney, Cody, and Chelsea the family golden retriever, as part of the CAST family of couples. They will always remember the day they won the CAST Classic Championship on Sam Rayburn Reservoir from Jackson Hill Marina in 2007, Congratulations to Ronnie and Courtney Mundy.
