FISHING TO YOUR STRENGTHS!
Many of us who fish C.A.S.T. know what we can do and what we can't do. Jim &
Kay Anderson are truely a championship caliber bass fishing couple. They know
what they can do well and what their limitations are. Because the partner we are
competing with is normally the person closest to us, we are tied to the emotion
often brought on by our competitive nature. Learning to use your strengths to work
together as a team not only works as family, in everyday circumstances, it also
works to win bass tournaments!
Jim Anderson is a fantastic pitch and flip angler, Kay Anderson is a fantastic cast
and retrieve carolina-rig angler. Going into the 2011 C.A.S.T. Classic on lakes Bob
Sandlin & Cypress Springs, October 22 & 23, 2011, Jim & Kay knew if they were
to pitch and flip they would be limited by their individual ability. They decided to
target bass they both could potentially catch. Their tactic of carolina-rig fishing
main lake points on both lakes paid off big with the C.A.S.T. Classic Championship!
Finding bass suspended on Saturday over 20 to 25 feet of water John & Kay pulled their carolina-rigged baits over the points at those depths. This put the bait as close to the strike zone as possible giving them a limit of bass at the end of day one, weighing just 11.21 pounds. Not a heavy sack by any standard but, a sack, a limit, and in contention. On Sunday they moved to Bob Sandlin, already fished on day one by the other half of the tournament couples. The Anderson's adapted to the fishing pressure, as well as to a severe thunderstorm that pushed through the area, using the same approach on Bob Sandlin that had worked on Cypress Springs. The changes in weather actually helped their strategy with cloud cover all day on Sunday. The suspended bass they were targeting moved even shallower around 8 to 12 feet deep on Bob Sandlin. The same carolina-rigs, that Kay was so adapt at fishing, worked even better because the bass they were catching now were also much bigger. The couples weight on Sunday jumped to 16.95 pounds!
With a total weight for two days of 28.16 pounds the Anderson's took home over $10,000.00 in cash & prizes from the annual C.A.S.T. Championship!!! It is fantastic to see how a couple can work together to use the best of what they "can do" to finish on top! We applaud Jim & Kay Anderson for showing all of us what competing in C.A.S.T. is about.
