TAKE HOME FIRST AT LAKE ‘O PINES

The Ark-Tex Region held our fourth tournament of 2009 at Lake ‘O Pines and for the fourth time our couples braved high winds. Fortunately it was not cold or raining at this tournament. It became obvious at weigh-in, our couples have mastered high winds and poor fishing conditions. Every team fishing the tournament brought fish to the scales; plus we had four bass weighing over 6 lbs. while it took over 19 lbs. to win. Our couples reported fish were caught on a variety of baits including crankbaits, flukes, lizards, brush hogs, and spinnerbaits. They also said fish came from all depths of water; shallow, deep, and in-between.

Big Bass awards went to Doug & Betty Taylor with a 6.55 lbs. bass. Their Big Bass anchored a nice stringer of fish for this couple keeping them in the Top Six after four tournaments.

First Place went to Mike & Sharon Stroman with a really nice sack of fish weighing 19.49 lbs. Anchored by a nice bass weighing 6.29 lbs. Congratulations to both Mike & Sharon!

The Second Place position was taken by Jim & Mary Edwards with another nice stringer of fish weighing 16.80. Even though Mary would have liked to get away from the windy bank they were fishing, Jim insisted they could find a good stringer in the wind and they did. Good work!!

Third Place went to Randall & Julie May with another limit of fish weighing

16.77 lbs. We are glad to have this great couple back fishing with the Ark-Tex Region this year. Way to go Randall & Julie!

Couples taking home checks at this tournament were Jim & Brenda Harris, Mitchel & Jan Stuteville, Billy Ferguson & Lisa Price, Michael Moss & Christina Evangelista. What an awesome tournament and great day on Lake ‘O Pines. Anytime an entire tournament field comes in with bags of fish it was a great day! If only all of our tournaments could be this way!

To close Rick & I would like to thank all our couples for braving the windy weather and fishing this tournament and supporting us in the Ark-Tex Region. We would also like to say there were some really good stories to come from this tournament. Just to share a few, at least one fellow took a swim early in the morning, one of our ladies, while trying to net a fish, in wind, was knock to the bottom of the boat where she said she stayed until her partner boated the fish. All of our couples said it was a really bumpy ride all day, but in the end we all had a really good tournament. Congratulations to ALL of the couples. We would also like to wish Allen Blackman a speedy recovery from his knee surgery.
