FINISH THE YEAR # 1 ALL THE WAY

The Ark-Tex Region finished the 2008 fishing season with a Boom and a Bang. Strong thunderstorms rolled into the Texarkana area on Saturday night bringing high winds, lighting and heavy rain. Our couples were greeted early Sunday morning with the same wind, lighting, and rain leaving everyone waiting on the ramp for the storms to pass. As the sun came up the weather improved letting our couples spend a good day on the lake with only light showers through out the day. As it turned out our final tournament enjoyed a comfortable day of fishing, as temperatures did not get as hot as it can in Texas during late June.

Fortunately Saturday’s weather was nice as well and CAST Ark-Tex couples held our 2nd annual cookout at the lake with hotdogs, chips & dip, and cookies. David Ford cooked for everyone and we all enjoyed a hotdog and good visit during Saturday’s registration.

Our 1st Place team at Wright Patman was HOT and they have been all year. Mike & Sharon Stroman not only took home first place with a nice stringer of bass weighing 16.80 pounds, they also took home Big Bass honors with a 4.98 pound bass. Mike & Sharon also finished the year as regional points leaders making them the Ark-Tex Region’s Anglers of the Year for the second year in a row. Way to go Stroman’s!!!

Finishing in 2nd Place at this final event was the team of David & Mary Rhyne. David brought a nice stringer of five bass to the scales weighing 15.76 pounds even though he fished alone. Mary could not attend the tournament this time, see you next year Mary.

Rounding out the finalists in 3rd Place went to another of our 2008 Top Six couples, Jimmy & Neeley Oglesby, weighing in a nice stringer of bass weighing 12.82 pounds. Neeley was really excited about receiving her second trophy for her wall at home. Good year of fishing you two!!

Fourth place and winners of the ACI C.A.S.T. cash were another Ark-Tex TOP SIX team for 2008, Steven Stroman & Catilyn Allen, weighing a five fish stringer of 10.50 pounds. Catilyn told us they didn’t have their last two fish until just before weigh-in. Steven & Catilyn are going to be married next month. Congratulations on your up coming wedding!

Rick & I would again like to take a minute to thank all of our members for making this not only a successful year for our region but making it fun and a pleasure to be your 2008 Directors. We both look forward to another successful and fun filled year in 2009. We hope for more members, more sponsors, and more fun. Rick & I would also like to thank David & Krystal Ford for all of their help during the year loading, unloading, weighing fish, taking pictures and all the other things they have done. Thanks to all the members who have helped so many times loading our equipment after weigh-in and all the other odd jobs each of you have done through- out the year. Working together is what makes this region special. THANKS!!!!
