Virgl & Jackie Akin Win Pat Mayse
After our last tournament on Bob Sandlin we had a race to the finish. With Rick and Linda Milam holding a slim one point lead over Ray and Ann Smith. The question was could they hold them off? With partly cloudy skies and a breeze to help escape the heat expectations were high for a good day of fishing.
Now since I have been fishing a BASS cicuit in the Razorback Division of Arkansas you are never to old to learn. With my birthday quickly approaching the saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks is misleading. With a spinning rod 10 lbs test line and a 4" inch finesse worm Virgil and Jackie Akin came to the scales with 16.46 lbs to take first place in our last tournament before the Classic. They also took big bass honors with one weighing 5.50 lbs.
In second place and not far behind with a total weight 14.50 lbs. David and Sarah Ryhne. Third place went to the wily veteran and his wife Marty and Jill Sugg with a weight of 12.63, they also one the Ranger Boat Award.
Back to the angler of the year race. Rick and Linda Milam came to the scale and anticipation were high. Could they hold off the Team of Ray and Ann Smith? Ray and Ann could only manage one keeper weighing 1.80 lbs. Rick and Linda put there one keeper on the scales. When the scales settled at 1.71 lbs. we have Co- Anglers of the Years. Rick and Linda Milam, Ray and Ann Smith. Congratulations to both teams they fought hard all year long so it was only seeming that both teams won.
I would like to thank all of you who help make the ArkTex Region a success for your dedication and support. I look forward to a successful season again next year and I will see you all at the Classic in October.
