Brian and Kim Harris
WIN
CAST Metroplex
Benbrook Tournament
by Conley and Kelley Staley
CAST Metroplex tournaments seem to attract adverse weather in 2007. Strong thunderstorms, tornados and large hail blew through the area on Friday night before the cold front that set in for Saturday’s tournament. Strong winds of 25 to 45 mph blew constantly all day long for the couples. Temps were in the mid 40’s and with the wind blowing that strong it seemed even colder. Combine this with the bass having a bad case of lock jaw, it was a very tough tournament. As always our couples manage to catch fish despite the conditions.
Brian and Kim Harris fished the Rocky Creek area to bring in three fish for 8.09 lbs and first place. Kim stated the fish were caught by Brian on a black and blue jig, and Kim caught them in a big black net. Fantastic Job!
David and Charolett Harris were 2nd with 5.39 lbs also caught in the Rocky Creek area. I do believe the Harris’s knew something the rest of us did not know? David and Charlotte fought the strong winds to get to Rocky Creek, must have been a heck of a ride! The fish were caught on a black and blue jig and chartreuse and white spinner bait.
Our 3rd place couple, Danny and Ginger Moore, brought in our big bass of the tournament with a 5.08 lb large mouth. Danny caught the fish first thing that morning, on a black and blue jig.
Rounding out the rest of the field were 4th place Conley and Kelly Staley with one fish that weighed in at 4.37 lb, caught on a Berkley Blue Fleck Power Worm purchased at Academy.
John Staley and Page Cundiff with one fish at 3.19 lbs, was also caught on a Berkley Blue Fleck Power Worm. That’s it folks; that’s all the fish that were weighed in. As I stated earlier it was a tough tournament.
There were some problems at the tournament. First one I can think of is, always check you rod boxes to see if your equipment is there! David and Cathy Schwind had all the equipment stolen out their boat, but did not know it until they were on the water and were ready to fish. We hope that everything goes well to get your equipment replaced.
Second lesson. If you plan to leave early call us we will try to weigh in your fish for you. One couple I won’t mention any names (Keith) caught a fish and had to leave early and released their fish. Look at all those points you lost!
Speaking of Points, there were quite a few changes in the point standings after this tournament. The race for Anglers of the year is going to be tough fought battle. Less than 11 points separate the Top Six Teams!!
We want to thank all of our fine sponsors. Please if you get a chance, thank them! Send them an e-mail and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and the Metroplex region. With out them, it would not be possible.
Ok next tournament:
Lake Whitney will be the site of our next tournament. We will launch from Lakeside Village. Depending on the weather we will all take off from there. Once you launch your boat go around the corner were all the boat slips are (not in the marina but the next set of slips) and I will call out numbers from there.
Weigh in will be at 3:00 pm. If you are not checked in (your chip with boat #) at 3:00 pm we will not weigh in fish. I will send out an e-mail with a map of how to get to Lakeside Village (I will try and give better directions this time) and let you know if anything changes.
