CAST Metroplex Opens
2008 on Cedar Creek
by John & Grace Watts
One of the greatest attributes of a fisherman or fisherwoman is their ability to adapt to the situation. CAST Metroplex couples made several adaptations before their first tournament of 2008 ever started. Their beloved directors from 2007, Conley & Kelly Staley, were unable to return for 2008 due to occupational commitments that could not be overcome this year. All of the couples in CAST Metroplex miss Conley and Kelly and look forward to their return as soon as possible!
The next adaptation was a change in schedule to overcome logistical issues just to have a successful Metroplex region. Cedar Creek became the first tournament location for this year and the weather and tough conditions the lake presents in early March. Metroplex couples faced cool water conditions on the lower lake at the launch ramp and knowing warmer water was a long boat ride away on the upper lake. The debate to run or not was also dictated by the forecast of strong wind predictions in the afternoon.
Shane and Rebecca Timm obviously made the best adaptations and decisions bringing 13.20 lbs of bass to the scales capturing 1st place and the points lead to start the year off right. Their bag of bass was anchored by a very respectable 5.73 lb. bass. This early spawn bass carried a large belly full of eggs.
Not far behind in second place were the highly experienced couple of Rayford and Diane Richman. With a limit of solid Cedar Creek bass they were 2 lbs in front of third place with a total of 12.76 lbs. Each of their fish were solid keepers averaging better than 2 ½ lbs. apiece. This couple will be a force to be reckoned with in the race to qualify for the end of year TOP SIX Invitational Tournament. We look forward to seeing if anyone can catch them down the line.
Coming in third place were one of CAST Metroplex’s newest members, Kevin & Julie Seibold. Kevin & Julie are new to bass tournaments also. Their first top three finish made Julie a little excited about taking home a check and the third place plaque Their total weight came to 10.69 lbs. for this tournament. Congratulations to Kevin & Julie, we wish you continued success.
The battle to qualify for the TOP SIX Invitational Tournament has officially begun. Rounding out the Top Six couples in order of finish are: Danny & Ginger Moore, Jeff & Susan Brandon, and Bryan & Kim Harris. Congratulations to everyone!
Our next tournament will be at Lake Tawakoni on April 5, 200. We will have registration at the Tawakoni State Park Ramp starting at 5: 00 am. I expect us to call boat numbers by 6:30 am that morning. Please have your paperwork ready if this is your first tournament of the season. We will also be conducting weigh-in at the Tawakoni State Park boat ramp area.
Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Metroplex. Thank you and until later God Bless and Good Fishin’!
