Big Limits and Big Bass at Bob Sandlin

CAST Northeast’s April 29, 2007 Bob Sandlin regional tournament had over 80 % of the participating couples teams bring big bags of five fish limits to the scales.  Of the 50 teams fishing this warm late spring tournament, only one team did not have a fish and 42 other teams had a limit.
When fishing is this good everyone feels like they have a chance to win.  However, the best anglers always seem to find a way to come out on top.  The tournament savvy team of Marty and Jill Sugg carried an impressive stringer weighing 22.59 lbs. to the stage taking first place in the event and collecting a bonus check from Ranger Boats as the top finishing couple in a Ranger boat!
Marty had to bring Jill back to Bob Sandlin for the Northeast region’s tournament; she caught all their fish two weeks earlier, during the CAST Ark-Tex tournament on this same lake.  Marty knows a good thing when he sees it!
Taking second place were Joel and Lea Ann Howell from Palestine, Texas.  Their impressive bag of fish were all almost the exact same size, with a total weight of 20.73 lbs.  Joel and Lea Ann were on big fish and made the most of it.  They are always in contention for a top place finish!
Third place went to one of the most sure footed, rock solid and graceful teams in CAST Northeast, Toby Davis and Charla Massey of Tyler, Texas.  Their five fish limit weighed 20.59 lbs. Toby and Charla were pitching jigs to hardwood trees in 2 to 8 foot depths to catch their fish.
Big Bass of the tournament was a fight of the eight pounders, Linda Rucker started off the battle with a huge fish weighing 8.24 lbs.  Linda was overtaken a short time later when Carolyn Voyles brought a monster fish she caught weighing 8.42 lbs to the scale.  But not to be outdone Barbara Taylor weighed in the biggest bass of the event an 8.60 lb. lunker hawg to take Big Bass honors and the heaviest bass of the season so far!  Way to go Barbara!!!  Tommy was net man!
Special thanks to Rick and Linda Milam directors for the Ark-Tex region of CAST for opening their home to the Northeast region couples for a cook-out by the lake.  A good time was had by everyone with plenty of food and fellowship.  Congratulations to Jeremy Grandstaff “winner” of the first ever CAST Casting Contest, also in tenth place with honorable mention was Charlie Harper.  Thanks to everyone who participated.
Our next tournament will be at Cypress Springs on May 20, 2007, we will have registration at the Super 8 Motel on Saturday afternoon.  Registration will begin at 3:00 pm and official tournament announcements at 5:00 pm.  The launch ramp for the Cypress Springs tournament will be Overlook Park.
Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Northeast.  Thank you and until later God Bless and Good Fishin’!
