Bob & Charlene Way Win Cypress Springs
Lake Cypress Springs does not have a reputation for producing big bass, but it does have a reputation for producing large numbers of fish. It did not let our couples down as it took almost 12 pounds just to finish last place in the money. We had 24 couples weigh-in a limit of bass. Most of the bass came from water less than 5 feet deep. There was not a lot of grass in the lake this year because of the low water conditions however top waters and wacky worms fished on points and in the back of coves produced a lot of fish.
Bob & Charlene Way took first place with a limit of bass that weighed-in at 18.86 pounds. Bob said that he had located fish both shallow and deep the week end before. His plan was to start out fishing the points with Pop-R’s and then to go later in the day and fish at about 15 feet. However, he stated that he did not catch any fish shallow for the first hour so he went to plan B and started fishing deep. It paid off for him as he caught a limit with-in the next hour of fishing.
Also having to go to Plan B was the second place couple of Toby Davis Jr. & Charla Massey. Toby stated that he had almost given up because at 12 noon he only had one small bass. He decided to try some of the brush piles that he could see sticking out of the water because of the low water conditions. The first one he went to produced 4 of his 5 keeper bass. He weighted in a very respectable 14.98 pounds.
Rounding out our top six couples were Allen & Robin Little with 12.96 lbs.; Betty & Larry Yarborough with 12.80 lbs.; Davis Burden & Diane Garman (last years winners) with 12.65 lbs.; and Anne & Andy Wright with 12.29 lbs.
