Gas “$60.00”; Entry Fee “$90.00”;
One tiny fish at weigh-in “Priceless”!
One of the great ironies of fishing at Lake Fork, Texas is you know you are fishing on the premier bass lake in the country. This lake has produced more Texas Share Lunker bass than almost all the other lakes in the state combined. The other irony is you can not keep any fish in a tournament that measure over 16” plus you are only allowed to keep one over 24”.
This is the excitement and the frustration the couples of CAST Northeast faced on their annual summer venture to the “best little bass lake in Texas”. Numerous bass from 4 to 9 lbs. were landed by the CAST Northeast couples and all of these fish had to be released back into the lake immediately. Huge bass deserve to have themselves weighed, photographed, and provide the angler who catches them a check; don’t you agree?
Will and Kelly Crayton were able to catch and retain enough of Lake Fork’s dwarf size inhabitants to win 1st Place at the June 10, 2007 regional event. Their five fish limit weighed 8.95 lbs. earning them 100 valuable points toward the end of season Top Six tournament. Will and Kelly were able to collect two valuable checks for their efforts, $700.00 for first place and $90.00 in Ranger Boats Ranger Cup bonus money!
Not far behind in second place were the better late then never couple of Guy and Rosemary Cavazos. With a limit of Lake Fork miniatures their total weight came to a whopping 8.83 lbs.
Coming in third place were CAST’s currently longest standing members, Gary and Barb Curtis. Gary and Barb have had three excellent fish catching tournaments in a row; catching a limit at the last three tournaments. Their total weight came to 7.66 lbs. for this tournament.
The Top Six couples in the Northeast Region will be a tough fight. With the top seventeen couples separated by less than 100 points and places 6 thru 12 separated by less than 10 points. This last tournament is a real challenge; it’s July, the points are tight, an opportunity to fish in the Top Six with an excellent payday for the winners, plus bragging rights are on the line! Awesome!
Our next tournament will be at Lake Tawakoni on July 15, 2007. We will have registration at Erbie and Carolyn Voyles’ home on Saturday afternoon. Please bring a dish to share with everyone at this event. Erbie and Carolyn will be providing the meat for our dinner. Registration will begin at 3:00 pm and official tournament announcements at 5:00 pm. We will be launching and conducting weigh-in at Tawakoni State Park.
Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Northeast. Thank you and until later God Bless and Good Fishin’!
John & Grace Watts,
