Chris & Janice Thorn master Bob Sandlin!

Each season CAST Northeast holds a late spring tournament on Lake Bob Sandlin to take advantage of many opportunities…  One of those opportunities is the great weather we usually have at this time of year, another is the beautiful lake, one more is the awesome lake home of Rick & Linda Milam, and the most significant is the wonderful fellowship Northeast Region couples get to share at our annual cookout on Saturday, before the tournament on Sunday.

Saturday’s festivities kicked off with registration, door prizes, more food then we could eat, and ended up with our first ever “Fishing Derby”.   Everyone received a door prize from Castaway fishing rods, Academy gift cards, lures from Strike King Lure Co., and soft plastics from E2 Baits.  The food was excellent as always with several meats to choose from, salads of all kinds, and desserts that were simply delicious.  After dinner some Northeast Region members chose to participate in a short “Fishing Derby”.  First to catch a legal fish wins the pot!  The winner was Barbara Potts, who in less than 10 minutes of competition, landed the winning fish, a nice two pound bass.  The fish hit a small rattle trap right next to the Milam’s lake retaining wall.  Congratulations, Barbara!

Sunday morning dawned with the last remnants of rain passing before take off.  As the day turned to sun and bluebird skies, Chris & Janice Thorn were busy putting together the winning stringer of Bob Sandlin bass.  Their total weight of 17.90 pounds easily outdistanced the remainder of the field.  Not only did they have the best stringer they had the biggest bass of the tournament, a very respectable fish at 6.58 pounds.   Chris & Janice collected the winners checks plus became one of the many CAST couples claiming Skeeter Boats bonus money in 2009 under the Skeeter Real Money Program!

Second place on the day went to one of CAST Northeast’s most consistent couples, as indicated by their fifth place position in the regional TOP SIX standings, Allen & Robin Little brought 16.41 pounds of bass to the scales to claim the runner-up spot.  Allen & Robin have finished in the top ten over the last three tournaments proving they are one of the best couples teams in CAST.

Third place went to CAST Northeast’s most recent newlywed teams.  Todd & Shelly Anderson were recently married.  Todd & Shelly caught 15.96 pounds of bass keeping them in sixth place in the TOP SIX standings.

Our next tournament will be at Lake Tawakoni on Sunday, June 14, 2009.  We will have registration at Erbie & Carolyn Voyles house starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 13th.  Please bring a covered dish and something for yourself to drink; all the meat will be provided.   We will be launching Sunday morning around 5:00 am from Lake Tawakoni State Park.

Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Northeast.

Thank you and until later God Bless and Good Fishin’!
