CAST Northeast opens 2008 on
"WINDY" Cedar Creek

One of the greatest attributes of a fisherman or fisherwoman is their ability to adapt to the situation.  CAST Northeast couples made several adaptations before their first tournament of 2008 ever started.   Having tournament directors unfamiliar with the lake area and ramp locations was the first obstacle they had to deal with.  The weather and tough conditions the lake presents in early March came next.  Northeast couples faced cool water conditions on the lower lake at the launch ramp, plus wind blowing directly into the ramp, and a low bridge to navigate; created some last minute decisions trying everyone’s patience.

The tournament scales that worked fine the day before decided to take the day off; leaving improvisation the order of the day.  Special thanks go to Will and Kelly Crayton for providing the Cull ‘em Right scale we were forced to use as an alternate.

Curtis and Stefanie Hines obviously made the best adaptations and decisions bringing 14.80 lbs. of bass to the scales capturing 1st place and the points lead to start the year off right.  Their bag of bass was anchored by a very respectable 4.10 lb. bass.  This young couple started fishing with CAST in 2007 as boyfriend and girlfriend and now as a married couple.  See what CAST does to people!

Not far behind in second place were the highly experienced couple of Terry and Bonnie Johnson.  Their five bass limit weighed 14.20 lbs.  Their kicker fish weighed 5.40 lbs.  Terry said they caught all of their fish tossing a texas-rigged worm right against the retaining walls.  They missed a few fish that ran straight toward them after taking the bait.  Terry and Bonnie made the TOP SIX Invitational last year and are in the race to qualify for the end of year tournament once again.  We look forward to seeing if anyone can catch them down the line.

Coming in third on Sunday were Saturday’s second place finishers from the Metroplex tournament, Rayford and Diane Richman.  Their total weight came to 14.10 lbs. for this tournament.  Congratulations to Rayford & Diane.  They are long standing members of CAST.

Steve & Trudy Smith captured BIG BASS honors with a 6.30 lbs. egg laden female.

The battle to qualify for the TOP SIX Invitational Tournament has officially begun.  Rounding out the Top Six couples in order of finish are: Jeremy Grandstaff & Crystal Anderson,  Allen & Vickie Redmon and Terry & Lauren Hawkins.  Congratulations to everyone!

Our next tournament will be at Richland Chambers on March 30, 2008.  We will have registration at the Oak Cove Marina starting at 3: 00 pm on Saturday, March 29th.   I expect us to call boat numbers by 6:30 am Sunday morning.  Please have your paperwork ready if this is your first tournament of the season.  We will also be conducting weigh-in at the Oak Cove Marina boat ramp area.

Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Northeast.

Thank you and Until Later...   God Bless and Good Fishin’!
