Wilcox & Potts limit out on Lake Fork!
This season it seems CAST Northeast Region’s tournaments are all associated with high winds and difficult fishing conditions. Our couples managed to miss the rain, hail, lightning, and thunderstorms on Saturday, only to face high 25 mph winds on Lake Fork, April 19, 2009. Lake Fork was the third tournament on the schedule. Once again anticipation was high that we were on the right lake at the right time only to have the weather present tough fishing conditions.
As in almost all tournaments, someone manages to find the fish. Bill Wilcox & Barbara Potts did just exactly what was necessary to win on Lake Fork. Catching good quality slot fish under the 16” size limit. Bill & Barbara brought one of only two five fish limits to the scales. Their total weight of 10.83 lbs. was enough to win the tournament.
Taking second place on this windy day was a young couple new to CAST, Eric Wright & Sera Morris. Eric & Sera were confident on Saturday they could master Lake Fork’s slot limit and bring in enough fish to win. They almost pulled it off, bringing in the other five fish limit for the event. With a weight of 10.75 lbs. and a stringer of fish that looked almost identical in size, they missed the mark by only .08 of a pound.
Third place went to one of CAST Northeast’s father/daughter teams. Terry & Lauren Hawkins caught some nice slot fish to weigh-in; totaling 8.47 pounds. Lauren was a little disappointed on Saturday due to her softball practice being cancelled but she was ready and able to catch some fish on Lake Fork on Sunday. Persistence will always pay-off in the end. Good Job Terry & Lauren!
The couples currently eligible to represent the Northeast Region in the 2009 CAST TOP SIX Invitational Tournament are: Bill Wilcox & Barbara Potts, Mike & Martha Aguado, Terry & Lauren Hawkins, Allen & Robin Little, Todd Anderson & Shelly McFarlane and Robert & Sherry Moore. Eligible alternates are John & Tawney Larsen, Steve & Trudy Smith, Steve & Debbie Heck, and Bryce & Inna Reed. Good Luck to everyone, keep movin’ up!
Our next tournament will be at Bob Sandlin on May 17, 2009. We will have registration at Rick & Linda Milam’s lake-house starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 16th. Remember Saturday is our annual “cookout”! Please bring a covered dish and something for yourself to drink; all the meat will be provided. We will be launching Sunday morning around 5:00 am from Barefoot Bay Marina.
Please remember to e-mail our sponsors and let them know how much you appreciate their support of CAST and CAST Northeast.
Thank you and until later God Bless and Good Fishin’!
