CAST Northeast Opener on WINDY Richland-Chambers

Another CAST season has begun in the Northeast Region. Beginning a little earlier in the year has it's pluses and it's minuses; wind and cold in February is sometimes hard to justify avoiding hot and humid in July or August. Especially when you are sitting in 3 to 4 foot swells, soak and wet in February.

As with all tournament fishing though someone always finds the fish! Mike & Martha Aguado did exactly that on Richland-Chambers February 8, 2009 bringing in a nice limit of early spring bass weighing 13.31 lbs to claim 1st Place. Mike & Martha were one of three couples to bring a limit to the scales in the event. It was a tough day of fishing with the wind picking up mid-day at 15 - 25 mph with gusts to 30+ by tournament weigh-in. Mike & Martha are first year fishermen with CAST and started off the season right!

Finishing in second place were one of our former couples, returning to CAST in 2009; Bill Wilcox & Barbara Potts. Many of you know Bill from the Honey Hole Outdoors TV series. Bill is a former CAST Classic Champion from 1998 when he and his daughter, Brea, won on Lake Brownwood. Bill & Barbara's 2nd Place stringer consisted of four bass weighing 11.04 lbs. Barbara said they just could not find that fifth fish they needed.

Our third place couple at Richland-Chambers were John & Tawny Larsen from Grand Prairie, Texas. John & Tawny were the highest finishing Skeeter boat owners for the tournament. John said they caught all thier fish on a Strike King Red Eye Shad in the red color. They also had five nice bass weighing 10.77 lbs.

Big Bass honors went to Todd Anderson & his fiance' Shelly MacFarlane. They only had one fish for the day, but it was a monster, weighing in at 9.57 lbs!!! This fish had a head that looked like she could have easily went over eleven pounds. She was very healthy but just did not carry a huge belly, as you might expect at this time of year. She was released, hopefully to join the upcoming spawn. Congratulations to Todd & Shelly on an awesome fish!

The couples currently eligible to represent the Northeast Region in the 2009 CAST TOP SIX Invitational Tournament are: Mike & Martha Aguado, Bill Wilcox & Barbara Potts, John & Tawny Larsen, Todd Anderson & Shelly MacFarlane, Wiley & Martha Collins, Jeremy Grandstaff and Crystal Anderson, Dustin & Misty Thomas, Terry & Lauren Hawkins, Bill & Audrey Gammons, and Thomas & Glenda Traylor! Good Luck to all the couples in the Northeast Region. The Northeast Region couples are the defending CAST TOP SIX Invitational Tournament Champions from the 2008 CAST season!!!

NEXT TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

Our next tournament will be on Cedar Creek Lake from Log Cabin Park on Sunday, March 8th. Registration will be on Saturday, March 7th at the Log Cabin hotel & Exxon station on Texas State Hwy 198 and FM 3054. Registration times will be 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Couples unable to attend registration on Saturday may register at the ramp on Sunday morning.
