No Trolling Motor, No Problem!!!
Cecil and Paula Suttle finished the regular season for CAST Northeast by collecting their third tournament win of the year. They won in the Ark-Tex Region April 15, 2007 at Lake Bob Sandlin and again May 20, 2007 at the Northeast Region’s Cypress Springs event. Now despite having a trolling motor with dead batteries early in the morning, they managed to win the final Northeast regional tournament of the season at Lake Tawakoni, July 15, 2007. This dynamic duo of Physical Education Instructors has not let anyone or anything move them off of their focus on winning CAST tournaments.
Taking advantage of the slight wind that was blowing at the beginning of Sunday’s tournament. Cecil and Paula drifted across main lake points, throwing spinnerbaits from Academy Sports and Outdoors, to bag 3 fish of equal size, about 2 ½ lbs. each to win the tournament.
Lake Tawakoni was in a constant state of convulsion in the three days leading up to the tournament. Sporadic rain on Thursday, coupled with a massive down pour on Friday and then the break up of the low pressure system on Saturday made Sunday’s fish lock down and hide. Texas has needed rain for over three years and now it has come all at once. Tawakoni was so full of water that the bushes almost couldn’t hold all the grasshoppers and minnows. Fish found feeding easy and artificial baits were not on the menu.
Todd Anderson and Tracie Briggs brought home second place with 2 fish anchored by the second Big Bass of the tournament at 4.68 lbs. Todd being the gentleman that he is, caught the fish, and let Tracie collect the checks.
Third place was just another accomplishment in a long list of Northeast Region top five finishes in 2007 for Toby Davis Jr. and Charla Massey. When you have a huge lead in the competition for anglers of the year, going into the final event, the best strategy is, keep winning! This is exactly what Toby and Charla did. Champions always find a way to get the job done and with Tawakoni behaving badly they still put 3 solid keepers in the boat to cement the Anglers of the Year title!! Congratulations to one of the finest bass fishing teams in CAST!!!
