Steve & Trudy Smith "Tawak" Tawakoni!!!

For the past couple of years CAST Northeast couples have had a double treat in pre-tournament cookouts. This year was no exception as we once again enjoyed an awesome meal, courtesy of Erbie & Carolyn Voyles and other CAST couples. Erbie & Carolyn's beautiful Terrell home was the sight for registration and some fellowship in anticipation of the next day's Lake Tawakoni tournament. Fun was had by everyone with door prizes galore, great food, and plenty of fishin' talk!

Everyone hit the ramp early Sunday morning, June 14, at Tawakoni State Park; so early, we had to wait for it to get light enough to takeoff! Once boat numbers were called, the scramble was on to find an early bite in anticipation of the inevitable slow down in the hot afternoon. Several couples found some good size fish despite the hot afternoon.

Steve & Trudy Smith brought in the big bag of the day with five excellent Lake Tawakoni bass weighing 19.86 pounds. Everyone of their fish weighed nearly four pounds! Quite an accomplishment on such an unseasonably hot June day. Steve said he and Trudy lost several bigger fish that would have boosted their stringer to over 30 pounds. WOW! They would not divulge how or where they caught such a great limit, sighting a need for secrecy due to the coming weekend's tournament. Anyway you look at it this was a great day for the Smith family!

Second place, with a limit of bass weighing 15.71, belonged to one of the most consistent couples in the Northeast Region for 2009, Mike & Martha Aguado. Mike & Martha started 2009 with a WIN at Richland-Chambers, second at Cedar Creek, a 12th place finish at Bob Sandlin, and now another second place at Tawakoni. Not bad for a couple joining CAST for the first time this season. Congratulations Mike & Martha!

Jerry Grandstaff & Crystal Anderson continue to top the standings in the Northeast Region finishing this tournament in third place. Jeremy & Crystal have finished in the top ten in every tournament this season, save one. They are always in the mix to win any event they enter. With one more regional tournament to go, look out, these two could have something to prove! Good Luck!

Not to be out done on the day, BIG BASS honors go to a lady angler we usually do not hear much of; but today, Vickie Redmon holds the trophy for the 2009 CAST Northeast Regional Tawakoni Tournament BIG BASS of the event! Vickie's big bass weighed 5.80 lbs! An excellent catch at any tournament. Good Job Allen & Vickie!

Our next tournament will be at Lake Palestine on Sunday, July 12, 2009. We will have registration at the Palestine Motor Inn, 8360 TX Hwy. 155, Frankston, TX 75763; 903-876-4711 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
