CAST Southeast Closes 2006 at Livingston
CAST Southeast started 2006 at Sam Rayburn in a bitter ice storm; one of the worst seen in southeast Texas in years. The year started frightfully with one of our couples sliding off a bridge and rolling their tow vehicle down a 50 ft. embankment into the water in Ayish Bayou. Thank God the truck landed right-side up. They were alright, the truck was totaled, after the truck was pulled from the water, they went out with another couple and managed to weigh in fish at the end of the day. What a way to start a year. Frozen, almost killed, and it still took over 20 lbs. to win!!!
Well, the end of the year was almost the summer version of the beginning. We ended the season at Livingston in a severe lightning storm that kept everyone under cover for more than an hour after safe light with wind gusts that made trailering to your favorite spot a necessity.
After all the excitement in the morning, the afternoon faded to calm. John and Grace Watts managed to catch a limit of small keepers and win the tournament with 9.37 lbs. Throwing spinnerbaits and small crankbaits was the key to catching the fish early. After the wind died the bite died with it. John & Grace also collected the “Ranger Bonus Money” by winning in a Ranger.
In second place with 5.85 lbs were Don and Sandy Jeane. Don and Sandy have been the epitome of consistency throughout the 2006 season and as a result they are the CAST Southeast 2006 Anglers of the Year!!! Don and Sandy won the Toledo Bend tournament, finished 2nd in four tournaments, and 3rd place only once, their lowest finish for the year!!! Way to go guys!
Finishing the year as the 2nd place team in CAST Southeast for 2006 are the 2005 Anglers of the Year; Larry and Carol McMinimy. Consistency was again the reason this couple is so good!
CAST Southeast has 13 couples qualified and eligible to compete in the 2006 CAST Classic on Lake Texoma in October. In order of finish for 2006 they are: Don and Sandy Jeane, Larry and Carol McMinimy, John and Grace Watts, John and Jennifer Anderson, Craig and Elizabeth Marsh, Ronnie and Courtney Mundy, Mike and Karla Moody, Brandon Flowers and Tara Foster, Paul and Lori Cobb, Heath Moody and Amanda Piatkowski, Jimmy Hobson and Kare Padgett, Buddy and Gay Day, and finally Bob & Ginger Metz. Congratulations to all of theses folks who faced the storm(s) and persevered over all to reach the season championship, you are all winners!!!
Grace and I would like to thank all of the awesome folks who have fished with us and CAST Southeast this year. As CAST Southeast Region Directors we could not have asked for a better, more caring group of people to have the pleasure of fishing with.
