Buddy & Gay Day
Win Sam Rayburn

by John & Grace Watts

It’s tough enough fishing Sam Rayburn when the wind is blowing and tough to win a tournament on Big Sam without a limit of fish!  I’m here to tell you; Buddy and Gay Day found a way to do the near impossible.  Fish all day without a trolling motor, catch just 3 fish and win CAST southeast’s April 9th, 2006 tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir with a total weight of 16.07 lbs!  Buddy said as soon as he dropped the trolling motor in the water Sunday morning and hit the power, smoke poured out of the trolling motor.  So what does a good team do when the money is paid and the tournament is just starting; you just go fishing!  Not only did their three fish win the event but they took the big bass money also, with a nice 7.37 lb. bass.  The big fish came on a Carolina rigged lizard in about 12 feet of water.  All you gotta do is motor up to the spot, drift back a little way and set the hook!  According to Buddy and Gay there’s nothing to it.
Heath Moody and Amanda Piatkowski are making a name for themselves with CAST Southeast they have fished all three of our events to date and taken money in two so far.  This young couple is in their first season fishing together but if this is any indication, they will be a team to contend with at every tournament they enter!  Their second place weight for 5 fish was 14.72 lbs.
Third Place went to the most consistent team so far this year, Don and Sandy Jeane.  These two can compete at any level and take home a check!  Their weight of 13.75 lbs. has also helped to keep them in the number one spot in the standings for the last two months.  Knocking them out of first is going to be a challenge for the rest of the teams in CAST Southeast this year.  Don and Sandy have taken home a prize money check in each event of 2006 so far and they are the top money winners going into the fourth event at Lake Somerville.  Collecting the “CAST Cash” were Paul and Lori Cobb for being first team out of the prize money.  John and Grace Watts will collect the “Ranger Bonus Money” as the highest finishing couple fishing from a Ranger boat in 6th place.
Next Tournament Information

Our next tournament has been changed from the posted and printed schedule of events. The Lake Somerville tournament will be held on April 30th, 2006.  Registration and weigh-in will be at John and Jennifer Anderson’s camp site.  They will be bringing their travel trailer to Somerville, please look for them at the Overlook Park camping area.  Grace and I will be at the Anderson’s camp site on Saturday, April 29th at 5:00 p.m. to register everyone and we will have some nice items to give out for those folks registering on Saturday evening.
We hope to see all of you in Somerville on April 30th, and please invite another couple along who you think may enjoy fishing with us as much as you do.  Until then…
God Bless and Good Fishin’
