Don & Sandy Jeane
Win Toledo Bend

by John & Grace Watts

Fishing teams are usually made up of two guys with the same desire to just get out on the water and hope to catch a respectable sack of bass.  When fishing teams are made up of husbands and wives, it usually means her putting up with his need to be a guy!  Sometimes a woman finds a husband who is willing to put up with her being a better fisher-(person) than he is most of the time.
Such could be the case with Don and Sandy Jeane.  This fishing team has absolutely stepped up head and shoulders above the average team this year in CAST Southeast.  Their winning weight of 15.96 lbs on a hot mid-May day on Toledo Bend was proof positive that tournament bass fishing is truly a skill sport.  Their creel total was 8 lbs. higher than the second place finishers.  Don and Sandy have finished 3rd once and 2nd three times before finally breaking through to take a victory on the 5th tournament of the season. They also brought the big bass of the tournament to the scales with a nice Toledo Bend bass weighing 5.84 lbs.  Catching the big fish on a spinnerbait early (first cast of the day) then slowing down to fish Texas rigged worms made the difference between a limit of keepers and an excellent limit of tournament quality bass.
Ronnie and Courtney Mundy took second place with a limit of keepers weighing 7.92 lbs.  Making the right adjustments at the right time was key to their filling a limit of fish.  Knowing when to move from a spot you’ve caught fish to one that might have fish is tough. Ronnie and Courtney’s experience as a team helped them make the decision to run to another area in time to limit out before weigh-in.
Finishing in third place was another consistent team in CAST Southeast; Larry and Carol McMinimy brought in 4 fish weighing 6.71 lbs.
John and Grace Watts fifth place finish enabled them to win the “Ranger Bonus Money” as the highest finishing couple in a Ranger Boat.

Next Tournament Information
The next tournament will be held at Lakeview Marina on Lake Livingston on June 17th and 18th.   Registration will be at the ramp on Saturday June 17th at 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  In case of bad weather we will probably move to a local restaurant and discreetly take care of our registration.  Until then…
