Marek & Hinojosa Win a Tough Opener on Choke Canyon!

The weather for CAST South’s opening tournament was surprisingly good
for the middle of January. Light winds and mostly sunny skies with a high
approaching 70 degrees made the day on the water comfortable.

Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell the fish about the great weather.
They were in virtual lockdown. Five inches of cold rain the Thursday
before the tournament left morning water temps in the 40’s in some areas
of the lake, with the afternoon bringing  the temps into the low 50’s.

Saturday night the bet was offered there would be fewer than five fish
caught for the tournament. Nobody was willing to take the bet, and they
would have lost if they had. A total of three fish were weighed in on Sunday.

First place and Big Bass money went to new couple Kyle Marek & Hope Hinojosa with a one fish stringer weighing 2.31 pounds.  Kyle said the fish was caught on a Super Hawg in just 2 feet of water.  Kyle & Hope were pitching hardwoods up-river.

Second place went to Bill & Mary Langenberg with one fish weighing 2.11
pounds. Bill said their fish was caught 30 minutes before weigh-in on a lizard
in 4 feet of water. Bill said he and Mary stayed on one spot all day, looking
  for one bite.

Third place went to Gary & Lynne Brooks with another single fish stringer.
The Brooks’ fish weighed 1.72 pounds. Their fish was caught on a lizard in
6 feet of water while pitching to hardwoods.

CAST South would like to welcome two new couples to our group, Kyle Marek
& Hope Hinojosaand Bill Schimonsky & Donna Epley. We are glad to have you
and look forward to getting to know you better as the season goes on.
