Ricky Roberts and Janet Frerich win Choke Canyon!
The weather was hot and humid for CAST South’s second tournament at Choke Canyon Reservoir this season. Fortunately, we had a bit of a breeze on Sunday that kept the anglers as close to comfortable as you can get in south Texas in the summer time. All teams weighed fish on Sunday, which surprised some couples who pre-fished on Saturday.
Pre-fishing was tough on Saturday for the teams of CAST South. At dinner Saturday night, several of the couples reported having problems locating fish. Fortunately for everybody, that pattern did not hold true for Sunday’s tournament. While the fish were on a typical summer pattern for the most part, there were some notable exceptions.
First place and Ranger Cup Bonus money went to Janet Frerich and Ricky Roberts with a very nice five fish stringer that weighed 20.52 pounds. Ricky said he was reserving comment on how the fish were caught until after an upcoming tournament.
Second place went to Bill & Mary Beth Langenburg with five fish weighing 19.90 pounds.
Steve and Lori Herries took third place with a five fish limit of 13.93 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on soft plastics in the heat of the day in less than two feet of water.
Robby and Dawne Robinson were in fourth place with 13.90 pounds.
Fifth place and Big Bass went to Larry and Sharon Wilborn with five fish weighing 12.55 pounds, anchored by a big bass weighing 8.14 pounds. This is the big bass of the year for CAST South.
Danny and Lynette Branch took sixth place with 11.08 pounds.
Bill and Mary Beth Langenburg were the winners of the Kistler Rod Raffle, winning a pair of Kistler Rods valued at $360! Bill was fishing without Mary Beth this month, but put her name on the tickets, claiming that she is the lucky one. It seems that he was right. Our thanks again, to Trey Kistler and all of the great people at Kistler Custom Rods.
Our next tournament will be at Lake Mathis on July 15. We look forward to seeing all of our couples there for the final tournament of the season.
