Dennis & Linda Bald Win Father’s Day CAST South

Choke Canyon Tournament

The South region’s final tournament of the year followed a month of above average temperatures and strong south winds. Fortunately, tournament day was not as windy as the previous month, and allowed for some great fishing.

Dennis & Linda Bald brought in the big limit of the day with five bass weighing in at 19.50 pounds, anchored by the Big Bass of the tournament of 9.95 pounds. The fish were caught in 3-5 feet of water on watermelon red Bass Assassins and Spittin’ Images. Dennis said that the big bass came on a Spittin’ Image at 12:30. Happy Father’s Day Dennis!

The father/daughter team of Jim & Jessica Behnken spent the day fishing grass clumps with a Magnum Fluke in watermelon. Jim said they spent a lot of time on one clump where a 10 pound 9 ounce fish was caught on Saturday. While the big one didn’t come back for more, they did manage to pull a half a dozen keepers from the same grass.

Third place couple Stan & Mary Hall took a different tactic in catching their 19.96 pounds of fish, throwing white spinnerbaits over grass on wind-blown points. Stan said it was the first time in his life that he didn’t throw any plastics all day long. Stan & Mary had a great 7.22 pound fish that came out of less than a foot of water. So much for the heat sending them deep!

CastAway Rods were won by Dean & Stacey Fritz and Dennis & Linda Bald.

The CastAway Rod with WaveSpin reel was won by Ron Carter & Debbie Hunter.

Strike King gift packages were won by Stan & Mary Hall, Ricky Roberts & Janet Frerich, and Gary & Lynne Brooks.

Academy gift cards were won by Jim & Jessica Behnken and by Richard & Aryn Standeford.
