Waylon and Karla Bullard WIN CAST South

Amistad Tournament!!!

The South region’s third tournament of the year followed a mild frontal passage that brought windy conditions on the lake on Sunday. Those couples that made long runs up the lake had a bumpy ride back to the ramp as the wind started pushing the waves on big Lake Amistad.

Waylon and Carla Bullard brought in the big stringer of the day with five bass weighing in at 21.82 pounds. Karla said that the fish were caught in 13-18 feet of water on senkos.

The father/daughter team of Jim and Jessica Behnken spent the day looking for spawning fish in canyons, bringing in a five fish limit with a weight of 21.08 pounds. Jim said that they caught their limit of fish in a 30 square yard area within 35 minutes. The tournament’s big bass was caught by the Behnkens, a 9.18 pound monster that fell prey to a watermelon Gene Larew Hawg Craw rigged with a 3/8 ounce Tru-Tungsten watermelon-colored weight.

John and Kimberly Goin brought in the third heavy stringer of the day with five fishing weighing in at 20.30 pounds. John said that he and Kimberly fished stained water 2-8 feet deep with watermelon senkos, Strike King Pure Poison swimming jigs, and watermelon wacky worms to make their catch.

CastAway Rods were won by the Waylon & Karla Bullards and by Larry and Sharon Wilborn courtesty of the great folks at CastAway Custom Rods of Conroe, Texas.

David and Tammy Waller from the North region braved high fuel prices and drove all of the way from Ft. Worth to fish Amistad with us. We would like to thank them for making the drive and we enjoyed having them fish with us.

The South region’s next tournament will be at Falcon on April 20. We will launch out of Beacon Lodge. Registration is currently set for Falcon Lake Tackle on Saturday afternoon. The time will be announced as the tournament nears.
