Couples Association of Sport Tournaments
Ronnie and Courtney Mundy
WIN on Toledo Bend Reservoir!!!
CAST Southeast started their third tournament of the season on March 29, 2008 on beautiful Toledo Bend Reservoir out of Alpine Marina. Manfred and Many greeted CAST Southeast with open doors and great lodging. Alpine Marina provided our couples a banquet room for registration allowing everyone a comfortable place to hold registration.
Tournament morning came with overcast skies and rain. CAST Southeast couples fished many patterns from bed fishing to targeting inside grass lines, outside grass lines, and even Carolina rigging on deep humps.
Many of our CAST anglers used their new Just Keepers weigh-in bag purchased from Randy Duncan at Duncan Enterprises, www.duncanbags.com, to bring their hefty fish to the scales.
Ronnie and Courtney Mundy, CAST’s reigning 2007 CAST Classic Champions, took their SKEETER bass boat north of the Pendleton Bridge to Patroon Bay where they were greeted by twenty other boats fishing the same area. After looking around, Ronnie told Courtney that “everyone seems to be fishing deep grass lines”. Most of the boats around the area were fishing 4 to 10 foot depths. Ronnie headed to the bank targeting outside edges of bushes and the inside grass line. They fished depths mainly in the 1 to 3 foot range. Ronnie used his trusty SUPER FLUKE and Strike King Spinnerbaits to catch a five fish winning limit of 16.76 pounds.
Second place stringer was brought in by Larry and Joyce Coleman with a weight of 15.36 pounds. Larry and Joyce targeted deeper water just south of the Pendleton Bridge. Their go to bait was a Carolina Rig utilizing trick worms and centipedes to catch their limit. Larry and Joyce have not been strangers lately to having mechanical issues. Larry and Joyce utilized a drift sock due to trolling motor problems on tournament day. Last month they managed to put a hole in their boat. Having a GORILLA HULL installed as part of their boat repair was the answer courtesy of Toledo Bend Fiberglass. Congratulations to Larry & Joyce for their resourcefulness at overcoming some of the many obstacles in bass fishing.
Third place stringer and BIG BASS were brought in by the great fishing duo of Nick and Sharon Albus. Nick and Sharon fished mid-lake areas using soft plastics all day to catch their 15.19 pounds of fish. Their best producers were pumpkin seed wacky worms and green Texas rigged worms. BIG BASS honors for the team belong to Sharon. She was fishing a Texas rigged worm when all of a sudden Sharon said she felt like she hit a stump. Sharon started to work the rod back and forth to loosen her bait from the stump and with a couple of pulls she realized it was really stuck. Sharon asked Nick to turn the boat around so she could get unhung, when Nick noticed Sharon’s bait was moving off away from the boat. Nick told Sharon to “SET THE HOOK” and when she did Sharon found a 6.14 pound Toledo Bend big bass monster on the end of her line! Congratulations to Sharon on her big catch.
